Appraisement of genetic variability and character association of kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus)

نویسندگان

چکیده

Twenty five genotypes of Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) from different geographic origins were grown at the Central Jute Agricultural Experiment station Bangladesh Research Institute (BJRI), Jagir, Manikganj to study their variability, correlation for nine morphological characters. Significant variation was found all characters among genotypes. PCV greater than GCV and high values observed green weight with leaves, without stick fibre weight. The heritability (more 85%) coupled genetic advance in percent mean most traits. All except bark thickness internode length showed significant positive Path co-efficient analysis revealed that direct effect on yield. Considering these agronomic performance G22 G25 are suggested future hybridization program. SAARC J. Agric., 20(2): 31-42 (2022)

Genetic Control of Fiber Yield and Quality in Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.)

The study was conducted to investigate the ge-netic basis of kenaf fiber yield and quality In two sets of generations derived from 1X51 x Gha-na07 and Gregg x Ghana07 crosses. Analysis of generation means using weighted least squares procedure was performed on stalk dry weight, bast percentage, days to flowering, plant height, and basal stalk diameter . Analysis of generation means revealed tha...

Optimized Pretreatment of Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus) Phloem Insulation Cotton

Using response surface methodology, the pretreatment conditions of kenaf fibers were optimized to improve the tensile strength of kenaf phloem insulation cotton (KPIC). The effects and interactions of three parameters—sodium hydroxide concentration (X1), soaking time (X2), and beating time (X3)—on the tensile strength of the kenaf fibers were investigated. The Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) ...

Characterization of Developmental- and Stress-Mediated Expression of Cinnamoyl-CoA Reductase in Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.)

Cinnamoyl-CoA reductase (CCR) is an important enzyme for lignin biosynthesis as it catalyzes the first specific committed step in monolignol biosynthesis. We have cloned a full length coding sequence of CCR from kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.), which contains a 1,020-bp open reading frame (ORF), encoding 339 amino acids of 37.37 kDa, with an isoelectric point (pI) of 6.27 (JX524276, HcCCR2). Accumulation of kaempferitrin and expression of phenyl-propanoid biosynthetic genes in kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus).

Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus) is cultivated worldwide for its fiber; however, the medicinal properties of this plant are currently attracting increasing attention. In this study, we investigated the expression levels of genes involved in the biosynthesis of kaempferitrin, a compound with many biological functions, in different kenaf organs. We found that phenylalanine ammonia lyase (HcPAL) was mo...

Effects of Acetylation on the Dimensional Stability and Decay Resistance of Kenaf ( Hibiscus cannabinus L. ) Fiberboard

The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of the acetylation treated kenaf fiber, Phenol-formaldehyde resin content level, and three fungi species on the dimensional stability and decay resistance of high density non-wood composition boards. A standard ASTM method was used to evaluate weight loss and thickness change. The linear shrinkage and expansion of each species were al...
